Norwich,

I have a great guide that someone gave to me for when I went there a couple of years ago.

I'm just out atm on my mobile, but when I get back I will whomail you and I'm happy to send the guide to you if you want for free.

I went November time and 4 days is plenty.

Re: New York
Just remembered I must have been there last Valentine's - my birthday is the 16th.

There was snow everywhere and it was fucking freezing. But if you are wrapped up then it's a pretty stunning place in the snow.

Until it turns to slush. Then you find yourself treading on what you think is ice, and it's actually a 3ft deep puddle.

My best advice is don't bother eating out of an evening - although this may be tricky if the missus is a sucker for Valentine's. Me and mine found the ludicrous sized lunch/brunch portions would do us for the whole day - then maybe grab a pizza slice on the street on the way back from a night in the bars. Restaurants all look over-priced and touristy anyway.

And I turned 40 in this place - http://www.hogsandheifers.com/main/home.php

Re: New York
Staying down town is turning into a good option. World trade centre opens in November and Conde Naste (Vogue etc) and Revlon are moving in first.
Brand new restaurants opening up down that way now so a real resurgence in that part of Manhattan. For instance someone mentioned Pastis in Meatpacking, its closed down and is relocating to that area.
It will be cold, but loads to do down there. head to tribeca, good bars and restaurants.
Walkers on North Moore and Varick is a local pub that stays open till 4. bubbys on North Moore and Hudson is 24 hours and the food is good, a little expensive. Tribeca Grill on Greenwich and franklin does an OK steak.
Williamsburg in Brooklyn is cool, however I think Shoreditch has the edge. If you like music, check out who is playing as many english acts play here and a lot of brits come over to see them for the weekend. last week Paolo Nutini and Paloma Faith are two that I know played here and went down well.
Katz Deli, its an experience. Have fun, its a great city. If you want a nice romantic Italian Tutto il giornio on Franklin st. Don't go to Di Niro's Laconde verda, overrated.

Re: New York
You are coming in February so expect it to be cold and bear in mind that it could be snowy, worst case it could affect travel but dont let that put you off.

4 days is enough, provided you get an early flight out and a late flight back to maximize your time. Financial District is wealking distance for seeing World trade Centre, 9-11 memorial, Statue of Liberty, Ellis Island, Wall Street, Brooklyn Bridge etc. and its a shorty walk to most subways for getting to other attractions.

Enjoy!

Re: New York
I don't know about that but what I do know is in February it is normally sub-zero during the day out here (I'm currently in Boston)....so plan accordingly!

Wandering around sight-seeing and sitting having a coffee in the park is a very different experience at that time of year.

Re: New York
Forget Katz Deli or Joe's Pizza on Carmine Street they are nothing and not worth the trouble of getting there. I don't know why they are always dragged up on this site whenever there's a New York topic.

Oh yeah I forgot - went to McSorleys too - very small but very interesting too.

Last time I was there they did 2 -for-1 their own ales between 5-7pm.

Fecking hell - I luv NYC and was in some bar frequented by NY Hammers when we played against Pompey and Green saved a last minute penalty 0-0.

Sh*t I need to go back there - awesome place.

Prefer Chicago over NY.

A cleaner, friendlier, smaller version.

NY needs a face lift...it's looking pretty tired now.

Love New York

If you like a fantastic steak try
http://www.yelp.co.uk/biz/knickerbocker-bar-and-grill-new-york
$40 for a 28 oz to-die-for steak - and not heavy just delicious to eat - near Greenwich Village.

Also there is a good steakhouse near Times Sq but can't remember the name now.

There is a great Italian breakfast place in downtown Manhattan - if you can find it - frequented by NYC locals including cops - FAB place. Very close to Church St and the ex- World Trade Center.

FMOB I luv NYC - need to go back there soon.

Plus if you got Macys/Bloomingdales - take yr passport go straight to Customer services and get yr 15% off discount voucher.
